As a person who enjoys drift fishing immensely, I realized the other day on a fishing outing engaging in this very practice, that there are certain things that can really “put a crimp” in a successful day on the water when using this particular fishing technique, and an idea for a new article was born. I have spent the last twenty five or so years “drift fishing” for various species of fish from trout to large and small mouth bass and below I outline the 3 biggest enemies to a successful day drift fishing.

The Dog’s First Alligator Hunt!

Someone had to come along just to hold the dog. It was his first alligator hunt and as crazy as he gets when somebody in the boat catches a crappie, it was logical to assume that he would go completely bonkers if he saw a gator on a hook.

Living on a large, semi-swampy lake in Florida, you get used to seeing alligators everywhere. Rarely does a day go by that my brother-in-law can’t walk out on his boat dock and see eight or ten gators basking in the sun, within rock throwing distance of his pier.

Tempted by the television shows that portray rugged swamp people scouring the bayous and lakes for a chance to catch and kill a monster gator, he just had to have a big one.
